Just a few random thoughts that I'd like to share with you all. Thank you for reading.
1.Be kind. You never know what kind of battles someone else is fighting. Treat each other with the respect and common courtesy that you want to be treated with.
2.Try not to be so catty in general. If it doesn't matter two days, two weeks, two months from now, it probably doesn't really at all.
3.Remember what a broken heart feels like. You will break them, and you will have yours broken. If the relationship you are in has to end, try to exit gracefully and with tact. The things you say and do have lasting effects on those that love you, even if you do not love them anymore.
4.Don't jump on band wagons, and don't expect your friends to jump on them either. This is a relatively small community. Spend enough time here, and you will find yourself separated from each other by slight and varying degrees. Chances are, someone you know, and may even consider to be your friend, my date/hook up with/romance someone you've previously been involved with. This isn't because they hate you or because they aren't loyal. It's because our numbers are on the smaller side, our options aren't as vast, and this is what happens when you are a woman, surrounded by other beautiful, intelligent woman. Friendships develop, crushes evolve. You will also eventually be on both sides of that coin. Also, if you've brought someone that you've been romantiy involved with for the last several months or years into the social group you spend time with, and things eventually don't work out for you and your partner, don't expect all of your friends to break up with that person as well. Friendships develop. The city is two small to divide amongst us all.
5.Don't be so quick to belittle, cast down harsh judgements, and cut out members of your circle. There are already enough people in this world working against you. We shouldn't be working against ourselves too. The enemy wins when they divide and conquer, and honestly ladies, our enemies don't even have to waste the time and energy to do all of that because we do a really good job of it ourselves.
6.Communicate. Don't be passive aggressive. If you want something, or need something from each other, then say it in a peaceful, productive manner. None of us are mind readers and we are different persons, shaped from different molds. None of us is going to react to a situation exactly the same as another. To expect as much is only setting yourself, and those around you, up for failure.
7.Be accountable for yourself. Don't be the first one to point out faults and flaws in those around you if you are not able to turn all of that back around on yourself. None of us our perfect. It is okay to mess up. It is okay to do the wrong thing from time to time. You should be learning from your mistakes, and allowing those around you to do the same thing.
8.It's not a popularity contest.
9.Say you're sorry.
10.Lastly, and probably most important of all and encompassing every thing else that I have listed here, learn how to forgive. Don't hold grudges. The person that your angry with has more than likely been wronged in the past as well and there is a strong likelihood that those scars caused them to react to whatever situation caused you to write them off in the manner that they did. And, without a doubt, you've behaved in ways in the past that required forgiveness amongst your peers. Afford the same respect back to them. Life is too short to get caught up in petty squabbles, and to draw them out for as long as possible in the name of hurt feelings is unacceptable. It's not fair to you, and it's not fair to the person who has transgressed. This is not to say that everyone deserves the same level of forgiveness. This is not to say that you should reach out and be friendly to those who have seriously caused you harm. This is only to say reconsider the harms caused. Are they worth it? In a lot of cases, probably not. I've seen far too many great friendships crumble in the name of pride and ego, and in the long run, it's not worth it. We need each other. Today more than ever.
